The course is built on a substrate of glacial sands, providing classic moorland fairways which drain freely and are playable all year. No expense has been spared to ensure the Head Greenkeeper, Jim Lyon, has the most modern equipment. This, coupled with his skill and knowledge, ensures the course is always presented in excellent condition. The layout is tough but fair. It is an ideal length and difficulty to challenge the best golfers, yet also hugely rewarding for the average player, not least because of the sheer pleasure of playing a great course in a glorious natural moorland setting surrounded by inspirational scenery.
