Considered one of the best golf courses in the United States, the West Course at Westchester Country Club may also be one of the most familiar to the American golf fan as a long standing site for PGA Tour events. The Walter Travis designed West Course is hilly and heavily wooded, rolling through thick stands of pine, oak, and maple. The terrain is dotted with rocky outcroppings, some of which create blind spots which add to the complexity and difficulty of the course. The West Course, a par 71 at 6,980 yards, remains a challenging venue. PGA Tour statistics substantiate its toughness, as four of its holes (2, 3, 6, and 17) are found on the “Mean 18,” a list of the Tour’s most difficult holes.
