The golf course is recognized as a high quality course, built for serious competition. Montammy has been the host of the New Jersey PGA and numerous US Open qualifier tournaments. In 2009, the Club hosted a qualifier for the Met, one of the New York Metropolitan area’s major golf tournaments, and in 2010, was the venue for the US Open qualifier. The course’s challenges come not from its length, however, but from its strong mix of distinctive holes. The par 3s are relatively long, with undulating greens, strategic placement of hazards, and, on two of the par 3s, severe height differences from tee to green. The par 4s offer variety in both shape and length. Water is in play on 4 of the par 4s. The par 5 holes are a mix of dog legs and straight holes that offer the best chance to post a low score. The course is a stern but fair test of golf for golfers of all levels of skill. Playing conditions are maintained at “tournament” level with firm, fast greens, tightly mowed fairways, and lush rough. Fairway areas have been enlarged as trees have been removed in the renovation program. No shortcuts are taken in maintaining the golf course, the Club’s number 1 asset.
