That unusual design feature was introduced at the behest of the former owners but it does nothing to mask the fact that it is a fine test of golf for even the most talented of players. The New is lined by mature trees and features water on nine holes. The downhill, 153-yard, par-3 8th is a delightful hole and it also possesses a marvellous closing stretch in which accuracy is at a premium on the picturesque 395-yard par-4 17th and length is required on the 474-yard, uphill par-4 closing hole.
