Played Els Rainforrest course today and must say I was a littel disapointed. The service was ok (they need to work on their english skills. Had trouble ordering a sandwich from the restaurant) Tee box and fairway were pure! Greens very sandie and slow. Very slow. I rented clubs and got som nice Titleist AP1’s and AP2’s 716 iorns and last years driver/wood/hibrid. All in good condition. Could not ask for more. I don’t like the fact that there is no bunkers here. I have never played a course with no bunkers. I thought that it would be great not to hit any bunkershots the hole day, but it just resulted in, that you did not have to think from of the tee. Pretty much all the holes a straight with maby a slight dogleg, but this mean you can hit the driver any were between 200-230 meters from every tee, with out any real danger. This makes the course a bit “simple”. It can be hard to look back on the course and remember one hole from the other. They all look a bit alike. Don’t get me wrong. There are som great holes on this course. Hole 15 a great elevated par 3 and my favorite hole, number 16. Big dogleg right par 4. You need a good and well placed teeshot to make the green in two. When you hit your second shot in to the the green, it is with the wind in your face and the ocean as the backdrop. Top class! On this hole you need to think. Roughly speaking, you don’t need to on the rest of the course. Course management is not something you need at the Els Club. I play of hcp 11 and shot 10 over (my handicap) with a rental set and no golfshoes. This is an fairly easy course as long as you play it safe. The jungle is thick, so stay clear from here. Would i play again? Proberly not. I think that this part og the world, there are plenty of other courses that can provide a better layout and still be as pleacing to the eye as Els some times can.
