Oppenheimer Park Golf Club

Oppenheimer Park Golf Club was established in 1949 and is situated just outside Welkom, which lies approximately 140 kilometres northeast of the provincial capital Bloemfontein, Free State. The course is based on the edge of a dam that is home to a variety of different bird life. The Course was designed by the renowned golf course architect, Bob Grimsdell and the South African Amateur Championship has been held here three times. The renewed and upgraded Oppenheimer Park Golf Club was officially unveiled in 022, establishing an exciting new era for the club. The course followed a major overhaul and a few significant changes have been made. Changes include 6 new holes, 4 new greens and 3 upgraded greens. Players can choose tee boxes based on scoring averages rather than gender or age. The new signature hole number 2 boasts an island green and beautiful palm tree background. Oppenheimer Park Golf Club is a lush green oasis and has a tranquil, natural character with a parkland layout and an abundance of magnificent old trees lining both sides of the fairways. The new design will help provide a consistent playing experience and present a series of new challenges for players. The new halfway house comes as a welcome respite after the first nine holes and offers a variety of food, snacks and drinks. The club's crest is a large lizard, Cordylus giganteus, which is more locally known as the Ou Volk Lizard. During construction, they were found in abundance around the course.
