Charnwood Forest Golf Club

The course is primarily heathland and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by Natural England because of its variety of habitat for flora and fauna. Perhaps the most unique feature of the course is that it is built amongst the Hanging Stone Rocks, dating back to some 620 million years. The rocks are a strong feature of the course and as well as being magnificent to look at, represent a hazard to overcome during a round! The course is measured at just less than 6000 yards for men and 5300 yards for ladies with a par of 69 and 71 respectively. The 18 hole layout is achieved over 9 fairways and greens but with 18 tees, many of which make the second 9 holes a very different challenge to the first. With many elevated tees, blind shots, carries over stone walls, sloping lies and the natural hazards mentioned above, the course cannot be taken lightly. Any doubters need only check the scorecards of the best recorded scores on the wall in the clubhouse lounge. One of the highlights of the course is the greens which are the envy of many clubs in the East Midlands. The greens are slick, always true and have many subtle borrows to overcome.
