Description
The Avila Beach Golf Resort is the most well-known of the Central Coast Golf Courses, and a wholly-unique golf experience for each of our guests. Designed by Olin Dutra and Desmond Muirhead and opened for play in 1969, we are located 3 miles off Highway 101, south of San Luis Obispo and northwest of Pismo Beach. Nestled in the surrounding hills and on the edge of the bay, the resort includes a par 71, 6500-yard championship course, extensive and beautifully crafted event facilities and a neighborhood bar that also serves tasty sandwiches and small bites. The golf course has kikuyu grass fairways (think Riviera CC) and quick, classic bent grass greens. The front nine is situated on hilly terrain with small, often-elevated, smooth greens within oak-lined valleys. The back nine transverses a tidal estuary, with several forced carries over the water and multi-level greens to test your will and your skill. Golfers of all abilities will enjoy the challenge of this scenic course.

Carson LandrethJuly 18, 2024It looks like the owner has given up on the course. Poor condition throughout. The only thing it has going for it is the location. Tee boxes are tore up, fairways are dead, tons of squirrel holes throughout, greens are meh, the bunkers look like they took sand from the beach and compacted it then let vegetation grow in them. All in all, probably the worst course on the central coast. The round was not worth what they charge.

Looks like course is need of repair in general. I enjoyed my game there all the same. I’m sure the pandemic long droughts and long wet winter have paid its toll. The staff where all fantastic helpful and kind. I would play again.
